How you can Beat Nasal Polyps by Changing your Diet

include salmon in your nasal polyps dietYour diet plays a very big role in your body’s inflammation balance. By regulating what you eat, you can ensure that your body remains in an anti-inflammatory state. Remember, inflammation is one the main triggers of nasal polyps.

I don’t know about you, but changing my diet sounds a lot more appealing than having surgery!

Let’s have a look at how you can beat nasal polyps by making some changes to your diet.

Avoid these foods

Saturated fats are a big no-no for your general health. These can easily aggravate your inflammation, and this increases your risk for nasal polyps.

Cut down on foods like:

  • Chocolate and cakes
  • Processed meats
  • Egg yolks
  • Pastries

Anti-oxidants, and why you need them

Omega 6 fights inflammation by manufacturing arachidonic acid. This substance produces molecules that are anti-inflammatory. Make sure that you get enough Omega 3 to balance your intake of Omega 6. When you follow a diet high in Omega 3, not only will your polyps take a beating, you will also experience other health benefits.

Omega 3 will also reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer.

It is also critical to make sure that you get enough anti-oxidants in your diet. This will protect your body from free radicals, which are often a trigger for inflammation. If you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, you are sure to get a healthy dose of anti-oxidants. Make sure to stick to the recommended 5 portions of fruit and veg every day (1 portion is roughly the size of your fist).

Eat plenty of these

Here are some anti-oxidant rich foods that you can incorporate into your diet today:

  • Apples
  • Onions
  • Broccoli
  • Red grapes
  • Berries
  • Tea
  • Red wine
  • Cirtus fruits
  • Cherries

Choosing lean cuts of meat over more fatty ones, can play a large role in limiting your chances for inflammation. Further reduce the risk by always going for grilling meat, instead of frying.

When you have a choice, low fat diary products can also make a big difference. Go for skimmed milk, and low fat yogurt.

Beating your polyps by changing what you eat

While changing your diet is only one piece of the puzzle to beat nasal polyps, it can greatly reduce inflammation. And when you have less inflammation, your polyps won’t be as painful, and will be less likely to continue growing.

Make sure to grab some of these foods today, and you are bound to see some results soon.
